چکیده

We present near-infrared imaging of a sample of 57 relatively large, Northern spiral galaxies with low inclination. After describing the selection criteria and some of the basic properties of the sample, we give a detailed description of the data collection and reduction procedures. The Ks λ = 2.2μm images cover most of the disk for all galaxies, with a field of view of at least 4.2 arcmin. The spatial resolution is better than an arcsec for most images. We fit bulge and exponential disk components to radial profiles of the light distribution. We then derive the basic parameters of these components, as well as the bulge/disk ratio, and explore correlations of these parameters with several galaxy parameters.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Low Star Formation Rates for Z = 1 Early-type Galaxies in the Very Deep Goods-mips Imaging: Implications for Their Optical/near-infrared Spectral Energy Distributions

We measure the obscured star formation in z ∼ 1 early-type galaxies. This constrains the influence of star formation on their optical/near-IR colors, which, we found, are redder than predicted by the model by Bruzual & Charlot (2003). From deep ACS imaging we construct a sample of 95 morphologically selected early-type galaxies in the HDF-N and CDF-S with spectroscopic redshifts in the range 0....

Near - Infrared photometry in the J , H and Kn bands for Polar Ring Galaxies : I . Data , structural parameters

We present new Near-Infrared (NIR) observations, in the J, H and Kn bands, for a sample of Polar Ring Galaxies (PRGs), selected from the Polar Ring Catalogue (Whitmore et al. 1990). Data were acquired with the CASPIR near-IR camera at the 2.3 m telescope of Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatory. We report here on the detail morphological study for the central host galaxy and the polar str...

Starbursts and AGN in Luminous Infrared Galaxies

Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs), which emit a significant fraction of their bolometric luminosity in the far-infrared, have LIR ≥ 10L⊙. LIRGs are a mixture of single galaxies, disk galaxy pairs, interacting systems, and advanced mergers which exhibit enhanced star-formation rates and AGN activity compared to normal galaxies. At the highest luminosities (LIR ≥ 10L⊙), Ultraluminous Infrared Ga...
